Man arrested after town centre stand off
A MAN is in currently in custody on suspicion of kidnap after a stand off in Ipswich town centre today. Part of the Buttermarket was cordoned off and evacuated and armed police were on standby following reports that a woman was being threatened with a knife and was being held against her will in a flat above a building society.

Delivery driver's attack ordeal
A FAST-food delivery driver today told of the frightening moment he was assaulted and robbed by a gang outside a block of flats in Ipswich. Three masked men and a woman, aged in their late teens or early 20s, attacked Hedi Omar as he dropped kebabs off in Patteson Road.

Little hope of end to rat-run
HIGHWAYS chiefs say there is little chance of any action to alleviate problems in a Felixstowe street used as a rat run by motorists avoiding traffic calming in a neighbouring road.

Desperate battle to save crash victim
TWO members of the public battled desperately to save the life of an 81-year-old man who was in collision with a motorbike, it emerged today. The elderly man, who lived in the area, suffered fatal injuries in the accident and died shortly after arriving at hospital.
