Event date : 17 January 2012 - 25 February 2012
Learn harmony songs from around the world on this Singing Safari. No experience necessary, all welcome. Starts January, February concert in Ipswich.
A choir from scratch in just six sessions …
Maybe it’s the Gareth Malone effect, but everyone wants to be in a choir these days! After a pilot project at Jimmy’s Farm last summer, Woodbridge choir master Chris Rowbury is once again setting off on a six week Singing Safari to collect songs from all around the world and build a choir from scratch, this time to perform at St. Peter’s by the Waterfront, Ipswich on Saturday 25th February at 7.30pm.
Anyone from 16 to 80 who loves to sing is welcome – whether you just sing in the bath or are already in a choir. Everyone is invited along for fun rehearsals each Tuesday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Co-op Education Centre, 11 Fore Street, Ipswich IP4 1JW starting Tuesday 17th January (there is a large free car park accessible from Waterworks Street — use IP4 1JG for Sat Nav).
There are no auditions, no need to read music and nobody will be asked to sing solo. Come and learn songs from Africa, Eastern Europe, America, the South Seas and beyond – all in glorious, unaccompanied harmony. There may even be some dance moves! There will be a small charge of £30 for the whole series of workshops, final rehearsal and performance. Come and try out the first rehearsal free before paying for the six sessions.
Well known for his informal singing workshops using large doses of humour, Chris has proved time and again that everyone can enjoy singing together whatever their background or experience. Join him on the Singing Safari and be part of a supportive group, have fun and a bit of a laugh, find your natural voice, discover new songs from other cultures, feel the joy of creating rich and vibrant harmonies, sing your heart out and make some new mates. Around 60 singers wowed the crowds at Jimmy’s Farm last July. Let’s try to make a bigger noise at St. Peter’s in 2012!
