The Suffolk Coastal Floaters Hang Gliding Club was established some 30yrs ago, at the very beginning of Hang Gliding, here in the UK.

Throughout the year we usually operate from our winch tow site at Mendlesham, just off the A140, north of Ipswich. Winching up to 1000 feet allows us to start climbing up to the clouds and fly across the East Anglian landscape. Coastal flying is also still very much the heart of the club and we have several superb and uncrowded sites in both Norfolk and Suffolk.

The first steps are to come & check it out & talk to us on a flying day. You will need to telephone a club contact to find out exactly when & where we are flying.

Typical training usually lasts 8 days & costs approximately £1500 provided by professional instructors. Training to club pilot level can be arranged in August in Norfolk or at several other locations throughout the year in the UK or overseas, our club itself does not provide the intial training.

Continued coaching & development is provided within our club at no additional cost.

The club can help advise & source new or 2nd hand gliders & all other kit. A glider can be obtained from around £500 2nd hand, upto £2500 for a new glider

After the initial training & purchase of kit, ongoing costs are very low, club fees are £35 per year, & each winch is £1.75. (April 2010 costs)

We welcome new members, both young & old, as long as they are reasonably fit & active & over 18 years of age. (age 16 with parental consent).
