Recently went to the Lord Nelson for a meal. This has been one of our favourite eating places for quite a while but after our latest visit we were very disappointed. Tried to book for 8 o'clock on a Saturday evening but were asked to come earlier as they were busy. We turned up at 7.30 and found that we were the only booking for that evening, so did wonder why our original choice of time was unacceptable. Food was only OK not up to their usual standard. Basically felt like they didn't really want to be serving food at all that night, so would rather have been told that food was unavailable so we could have booked elsewhere. No one asked us if the food was OK and we didn't get offered a dessert menu. So I'm afraid with that we paid our bill and left. Sorry but wont be returning in a hurry, which is very disappointing to us.

Friendly service, great food, drink and relaxed atmosphere. Best pub in Ipswich and top landlords!
