We visited as a family of 7 for dinner on a Saturday evening in December. Having lived around the corner for many years the transformation of the pub from what it was to anything else was a welcome improvement. That's as far as any positive comments go from our party. One toilet cubicle for each sex shared with the wedding party upstairs, via a slamming door in front of our table; same door also accessed the unheated smoking area; no attempt to accommodate the child we had with us (e.g. refusal to provide a smaller portion of food etc etc); food not served simultaneously to each of our party so often cold by the time it all arrived, food not served with correct cutlery and no one in sight to ask; mediocre food; very small wine list. The food was bizarre. Two orders for the same meal would arrive cooked completely differently (interpretations of steak ordered the ubiquitous 'medium' way); certain meals were half the size of others; garlic tomato bread appeared for no discernable reason with a chicken dish, - our party was either ravenous or ready to sleep after the main course. The Crown has pretensions way beyond deliverance and I will certainly not recommend or return here. It will, however, I'm sure be a huge success with those who can't wait to say as loudly as they can, how much they spent on an evening meal, to eat from an affected menu with a patronisingly small wine list. And I do have a positive comment - we would like to thank the friendly, talented piano player (I know - they even have a piano player tucked away in the corner playing a baby grand¦).
