The History of Ipswich

The History of Ipswich - Carol TwinchEver thought that Ipswich was a town lacking in historical clout? Think again. As long ago as 1200 King John himself thought Ipswich important enough to receive a royal charter, while archaeology carried out over the last 30 years proves conclusively that it is one of England's oldest towns.

From the Anglo-Saxon 'Gipeswic' to the Victorian ship-building mecca, Ipswich has a tradition of sustained historical significance. High time then, that the story of Ipswich is told in full.

In this fascinating new title, renowned local author Carol Twinch sets out to do just that, and in her investigation of the last 1,400 years in Suffolk's primary conurbation she unearths much to capture the interest of the budding local historian. Narrated with wit and charm, this illustrated account of Ipswich's history is a true delight. Not to be missed.

The History of Ipswich is published by Breedon Books and is priced at £9.99. Available from all good bookshops, The History of Ipswich can also be bought online at www.breedonbooks.co.uk, or by calling 01332 384235.
